Abstract: »The scandal of child sexual abuse concerns the Catholic Church worldwide and thus the German Church as well. Several reports have shown how widespread the assaults by clerics, but also the cover-up of these acts by church leaders, were in Germany. After a major national study was published in 2018, several bishops commissioned individual studies relating to their dioceses. After an overview of the research on these issues, we present the main findings of a study on the history of sexual abuse in the diocese of Münster, which was presented to the public in June 2022. The question is raised to what extent historians can contribute to shedding light on the structural conditions of abuse and its concealment.« (Source: Revue du droit des religions)
